Wootzano launches cutting-edge robotics in US to tackle labour challenges and foster sustainability

Wootzano Ltd, an agritech company specialising in post-harvest robotics, has officially launched its operations in the United States, debuting the Avarai robotic system in August 2023. This move represents a significant milestone for the company as it expands globally.

The primary objective of Wootzano's US expansion is to address challenges in the labour force within fresh produce packing sheds while also creating new opportunities in the technology sector.

The Avarai robotic system is equipped with advanced artificial intelligence (AI) and computer vision technologies, enabling the robots to continuously learn and enhance their performance over time. By using its unique embedded electronic skin, the Avarai can handle perishable fresh produce with care, thereby reducing food loss and improving accuracy.

Together with our US partner, we aim to make a positive impact and bring sustainability and quality to the fresh produce industry."

The US expansion is the result of collaborative efforts between various organizations, including the Fresno County Economic Development Corporation and The British Consulate General – San Francisco, among others. This partnership is expected to yield economic benefits for both nations through increased sales and job opportunities.

Lee Ann Eager, President/CEO of the Fresno County Economic Development Corporation, welcomed the introduction of Wootzano's technology, emphasising its potential to address regional needs and enhance productivity in the agricultural industry.

British Consul General in San Francisco and Tech Envoy to the US, Joe White, expressed delight in supporting Wootzano's expansion to the US and highlighted the importance of agricultural technology in promoting sustainable growth and food security.

The US-UK trading relationship, rooted in mutual economic interests and shared values, has fostered a strong trading partnership, with Wootzano's expansion further strengthening this bond. Lord Offord, the Minister for Exports, commended Wootzano for exporting innovative products, creating job opportunities, and contributing to economic growth.

Wootzano is committed to promoting a more sustainable and efficient agriculture economy in the United States. The company aims to revolutionise established practices and address modern challenges using robots and artificial intelligence to drive innovation in the industry.
