Borough Market launches 'click and collect' drive-through

May 12, 2020

Borough Market has been operating with social distancing measures during lockdown, but due to lack of footfall, vendors are struggling to stay afloat.

To help counter this, the market has just announced an innovative project to help people without breaking social distancing rules.

Borough Market’s drive-through, a new ‘click and collect by car’ service, allows customers to order groceries and store-cupboard essentials online and then collect from Bedale Street – all without leaving their car.

To avoid congestion, shoppers will need to choose a time slot, with the online market open from 1pm to 5pm, Monday to Saturday.

As they arrive, a member of the Borough Market online team, all of whom will be given masks and gloves, will be waiting to drop off their package and place it in the boot.

If you don’t have a car, you can request delivery, made to your door via eco cargo bikes.

Offers include pâté, jams, coffee, organic pasta, handmade chocolate and confectionary, charcuterie, olives and a variety of cheeses.

The usual fresh fruit and veg are also available, alongside meats, fish, bread and cakes. ‘

This new service is for Londoners who live or work locally but don’t want to come into contact with others – they can pick up all their essential ingredients without having to leave their car,’ said Darren Henaghan, managing director of Borough Market.

‘Borough Market remains open for business from Monday to Saturday, with social distancing measures in place.

‘The Market is focused on selling essential supplies of fresh produce and store-cupboard ingredients for those working and living in the local community.  All restaurants and catered food remain closed.’
