British Berry Growers has announced the appointment of Ali Capper as its new chair, with onboarding set to begin in July 2026 ahead of formally taking up the role in November.

Capper will succeed Nick Marston, who confirmed earlier this year that he intends to step down following a period of leadership at the organisation.
She brings extensive experience in fresh produce leadership and industry advocacy, having served as executive chair of British Apples & Pears Limited for the past eight years. Her appointment comes at a critical time for the UK berry sector, as growers continue to navigate rising production costs, labour pressures and the need for sustained long-term investment.
Welcoming the appointment, deputy chair Lochy Porter said Capper’s track record and understanding of the sector would help strengthen representation for British berry growers and support sustainable growth across the industry.
Capper described her new role as a “real privilege” at what she called a pivotal moment for UK fresh produce, highlighting the increasingly complex and competitive environment facing growers. She said she looked forward to working collaboratively with growers, retailers and government to secure a confident future for the sector.
She will remain in her current position at British Apples & Pears Limited until she formally transitions into the role later in the year, with both organisations committed to ensuring a smooth handover during 2026.
