Asda has announced a major partnership with Ocado Group as it looks to strengthen and modernise its online grocery operation across the UK.

The agreement will see Asda adopt Ocado’s Smart Platform (OSP), with the technology set to be rolled out across the retailer’s stores and dark stores from 2027. The move is designed to replace and upgrade Asda’s existing ecommerce infrastructure, supporting the supermarket’s growing online business.

Asda currently fulfils more than 700,000 online grocery orders each week through its network of stores and dedicated fulfilment sites, having generated more than £21 billion in sales during 2025.

Under the partnership, Ocado’s technology will be integrated across Asda’s online grocery operation, including its website, mobile app, in-store picking systems and last-mile delivery services. The retailer said the investment will help make online shopping faster, more reliable and more convenient for customers.

The new platform is also expected to improve delivery efficiency, increase the availability of delivery slots and support a broader range of fulfilment options, including click-and-collect and orders placed through delivery partners.

The announcement comes as competition in the UK online grocery market continues to intensify, with retailers investing heavily in digital infrastructure, fulfilment technology and delivery capabilities to meet rising customer expectations around convenience and speed.

For Ocado, the deal represents another significant technology partnership in the UK grocery sector. The company’s platform is already used by retailers in multiple international markets and supports tens of millions of online grocery orders each year.

The first phase of the programme will focus on upgrading Asda’s digital shopping platform, with further developments to follow as the retailer continues its wider business transformation programme.
