Belgian potato suppliers are stepping up efforts to expand their presence in the UK market, as rising production and a strong focus on innovation create new export opportunities.

Latest industry figures show that Belgium’s potato plantings increased by 12.5 per cent between 2023 and 2025, reaching an estimated 107,685 hectares. This growth is strengthening the country’s position as a major European supplier and supporting ambitions to develop key export markets, including the UK.
Leading businesses such The Potato Chef and Warnez are at the forefront of this push, focusing on delivering value-added and convenience-led potato products tailored to modern retail and foodservice requirements. Their strategy reflects a wider shift in the sector towards innovation, consistency, and consumer-ready formats.
The UK is seen as a particularly attractive destination, given its scale and sustained demand for processed and prepared potato products. Belgian suppliers believe their expertise in processing and product development positions them well to meet these needs and build stronger commercial partnerships.
Both companies have already been actively engaging with the UK market, having exhibited at the highly successful FPC Fresh Produce Hub at IFE from 30 March - 1 April this year. The event provided a key platform to showcase its offering and connect directly with buyers and industry stakeholders.
As production capacity continues to expand and innovation accelerates, Belgian exporters are increasingly focused on strengthening trade links with the UK and capitalising on emerging opportunities across the supply chain.
