Potato supplier Branston is backing children’s food education and nutrition across Lincolnshire this summer through cookery sessions and potato donations as part of the county’s Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme.

The company is funding 30 cookery sessions delivered by children’s cooking school Cook Stars, while also donating potatoes to holiday clubs across northern Lincolnshire and Gainsborough, reports Grocery Gazette.
The government-funded HAF programme offers free holiday clubs for eligible children from reception to Year 11 during school holidays, combining meals with organised activities.
During Branston-funded Cook Stars sessions children will prepare dishes such as frittata and potato salad using healthy recipes developed by Helen Walker, owner of Cook Stars Lincoln North & Gainsborough.
The participating children will also receive recipe cards for summer dishes made with baby potatoes, designed to encourage families to continue cooking together at home.
“We’re passionate about supporting local initiatives and making a positive impact on Lincolnshire’s communities,” explained Branston HR director Simon Telfer.
“It’s a pleasure to once again partner with Lincolnshire County Council, bringing local children the opportunity to build on their cooking skills in a fun and engaging environment.”
Improving food education among young people could help them to make healthier choices in the future, Telfer pointed out.
“Encouraging people, young and old, to learn about the importance of looking after their health and prioritising nutrition is key to building a healthier future for Lincolnshire,” he commented.
Branston’s contribution will to help provide nutritious food and activities for children and young people during the summer holidays, according to Lincolnshire County Council executive councillor for Children’s Services Natalie Oliver.
“Partnerships like this play a vital role in ensuring families can access support, while helping children stay active, healthy and connected throughout the summer break,” Oliver noted.
The summer initiative builds on Branston’s previous support for Lincolnshire’s HAF programme and comes under the potato supplier’s broader community outreach projects which focus on food education and nutrition.
