Co‑op has introduced an enticing new 400 g pack called “Best in Season”, priced at £3.50, featuring at least two different British tomato varieties sourced from growers in Essex, Cambridge and Hertfordshire .

These tomatoes are part of Co‑op’s broader push to celebrate British produce, forming the latest addition to its “Irresistible” range. They’re sold in recyclable cardboard packaging with a kerbside‑recyclable plastic top seal.
A Co‑op technical manager, Charlotte Lonsdale, said: “As a convenience retailer and longstanding supporter of British growers and farmers, championing home‑grown produce on our shelves is important to us,” adding that "the new snacking‑tomato line‑up “celebrates the very best of the season and provides the breadth of choice and newness that we know our members and customers are looking for in this category.”
This initiative coincides with the British tomato season, which runs until August, and marks the launch of three new SKUs: the 400 g “Best in Season” pack, plus 225 g boxes of Irresistible Sugardrop and Piccolo tomatoes, each priced at £2.25—all 100% British.
With British consumers increasingly seeking local, sustainable produce, Co-op’s tomato showcase is a timely nod to both seasonal eating and regional pride. It’s also a strong signal to the wider retail sector: that putting British growers centre-stage doesn’t just support agriculture—it also sells.
