The Fresh Produce Consortium (FPC) has celebrated the power of innovation and agritech to transform the produce sector at this year’s Fresh Awards, held at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel.

Technology-led businesses were among the biggest winners, reflecting the growing role of digital and mechanised solutions in shaping the future of farming and food supply.

The Agritech Excellence Award went to Altered Carbon, whose AI-powered scent detection technology can identify plant diseases and pests before they spread. The tool, which allows growers to cut back on pesticides while improving crop yields, was hailed by judges as a “remarkable agritech solution with the potential to reshape modern agriculture.”

The Innovation Excellence Award was won by Food Forensics for its new Sampling App, which gives the industry a secure and cost-effective way to verify produce origins worldwide. Offering enhanced traceability and authenticity checks, the system has already proven itself in the field and was described by judges as “a practical, forward-thinking solution that addresses critical, real-world needs.”

Meanwhile, Dyson Farming took home the Technology Champion of the Year title for its work in integrating AI-driven decision support software, robotic harvesting, vertical farming and smart insect monitoring into its large-scale strawberry glasshouse. Judges said the business is “setting the stage for the entire industry to reap the benefits of smart technology.”

Together, the winners highlight how agritech is rapidly moving from concept to commercial success. As FPC Chief Executive Nigel Jenney commented: “Innovation and agritech are not just buzzwords; they are the lifeblood of a resilient and sustainable fresh produce industry.

"From AI disease detection to traceability apps and robotic harvesting, these winners prove that technology is driving real, measurable improvements for growers, suppliers, and consumers alike.”

The evening, widely regarded as the ‘Oscars of the produce industry’, showed once again how cutting-edge solutions are helping the sector tackle challenges from sustainability to supply chain resilience, while delivering better results for farmers and consumers.
