A new multi-year agreement between GB Railfreight and Maritime Transport is set to reinforce the resilience and sustainability of the UK’s freight network, with both companies confirming an extension of their long-standing partnership.

The deal will see freight moved by rail from key deep-sea ports—including London Gateway, Felixstowe and Tilbury—to Maritime’s inland terminal network, supporting the continued shift of goods from road to rail across the country.
The agreement builds on a relationship spanning more than two decades, during which the two companies have developed a range of intermodal services linking major ports with inland logistics hubs.
Crucially, the renewed partnership is expected to remove thousands of lorry journeys from UK roads each year, helping to cut congestion and reduce carbon emissions while strengthening supply chain efficiency.
By expanding rail connectivity between ports and inland distribution centres, the contract also underlines the growing role of rail freight in delivering more sustainable logistics solutions for UK businesses, particularly as pressure mounts to decarbonise transport networks.
The latest agreement signals continued confidence in rail as a core component of the UK’s supply chain infrastructure—offering a lower-carbon alternative to road haulage while maintaining reliable links between import gateways and domestic markets.
