Discount retailer Lidl has been named the first-ever recipient of the Best British Apple Launch Award, a new accolade recognising retailers that champion UK-grown apples at the start of the domestic season.

The award has been introduced by British Apples & Pears Limited (BAPL) to highlight and encourage strong retail support for British apples during the crucial early weeks of the season.

Lidl secured the inaugural title following its seasonal apple launch, with judges recognising the retailer’s efforts to promote British fruit and drive consumer engagement at a key point in the marketing calendar.

The initiative from BAPL is designed to shine a spotlight on retailers that help boost visibility and sales of domestically grown apples, supporting UK growers and strengthening the overall category.

The introduction of the award reflects a broader push across the industry to reinforce the importance of seasonal British produce, particularly as retailers look to balance consumer demand with support for local supply chains.

By securing the first award, Lidl has set a benchmark for future campaigns, underlining the growing importance of effective in-store and promotional activity in driving the success of British apple programmes.
