Nene Park Trust is celebrating after being awarded a generous donation of £7,998 from the Morrisons Foundation. The funding will be used to support the Trust's 'Nene Nursery', a free-to-attend facility at Nene Park that focuses on delivering health and wellbeing activities to the local community.
This vital initiative aims to support individuals, especially those who may be experiencing social isolation, by creating opportunities for connection and personal growth through nature and horticulture.
The funding is seen as a significant boost for the Trust's work, particularly during the colder months when community engagement can often decline. The 'Nene Nursery' initiative not only provides participants with an outdoor space to interact and learn, but also offers a therapeutic environment that promotes mental and physical health.
Pia Larsson, Access and Participation Project Officer at Nene Park Trust, expressed her gratitude, saying: “We are absolutely delighted to receive this grant from the Morrisons Foundation. It means that our Social Prescribing and Therapeutic Horticulture workshops can continue to be delivered to individuals and communities throughout the colder months of the year, when social isolation can be felt more intensely.”
The funding will specifically enable the Trust to install a much-needed wood burner, which will make the workshops more comfortable during the winter by providing warmth and refreshments. Additionally, the grant will facilitate the installation of a new greenhouse at the plant nursery. Pia Larsson continued, “Adding a greenhouse to our plant nursery will increase our growing season so that we can share learning about healthy growing & eating through the seasons.”
The Morrisons Foundation is dedicated to supporting charities across the UK, and this donation will be instrumental in helping Nene Park Trust deliver its mission of fostering wellbeing and inclusivity through green spaces and horticulture.
