Sainsbury’s is putting eight organic fresh produce lines, including some British-sourced organic vegetables, on half-price promotion in the latest round of its September Nectar shopper loyalty campaign.

The four-day promotion, which runs from Thursday 10 September to Sunday 13 September, includes a mix of core vegetable categories alongside bananas and kiwifruit, reports GB News.

The move provides further evidence of the prominent role that loyalty-linked promotions are playing in the UK supermarket fresh produce category.

Retailers are using targeted discounts increasingly to reinforce value positioning, while retaining standard shelf pricing for non-members.

Among the featured products are Sainsbury’s SO Organic Fairtrade bananas, SO Organic kiwifruit, SO Organic carrots, and SO Organic onions.

Several homegrown organic lines are also included, covering SO Organic 100% British young spinach, SO Organic 100% British celery, SO Organic 100% British spring onions, and SO Organic 100% British baby salad potatoes.

The campaign is structured around Nectar Prices rather than a universal shelf-price reduction.

Customers shopping in selected stores participating in the campaign must identify themselves as Nectar members at the checkout, while online discounts are applied when Sainsbury’s and Nectar accounts are linked.

Sainsbury’s is running further weekend fresh produce promotions throughout September, suggesting that promotional activity will remain a significant feature of its fruit and vegetable pricing strategy during the month.

Just last week Sainsbury’s announced reduced prices for ‘lunch box essentials’ to help families save on their food bill as part of their returning to school and work routines.

The retailer is also maintaining its Aldi Price Match proposition across hundreds of everyday grocery products, adding another layer to the competitive pricing environment facing UK supermarkets.

This latest organic produce promotion is part of Sainsbury’s wider September Nectar programme, with fresh produce expected to feature alongside other grocery categories as the retailer rotates its weekly offers.

The eight lines included in the latest Nectar promotion are:

  • SO Organic Fairtrade bananas, six-pack: 95p with Nectar, compared with £1.90 at the standard price.

  • SO Organic onions, 750g: 82p with Nectar, compared with £1.65.

  • SO Organic 100% British celery: 70p, compared with £1.40.

  • SO Organic 100% British spring onions, 100g: 60p, compared with £1.20.

  • SO Organic 100% British baby salad potatoes, 750g: 75p, compared with £1.50.

  • SO Organic 100% British young spinach, 200g: £1, compared with £2.

  • SO Organic kiwi fruit, four-pack: 90p, compared with £1.80.

  • SO Organic carrots, 700g: 67p, compared with £1.35.
