Shropshire Grower Expands Production of 'Finding Nemo' Potatoes After Tesco Trial Success

A quirky variety of potato named after the beloved Disney character is set to make waves in kitchens across the UK after a successful trial at Tesco.

Shropshire grower John Rix has decided to ramp up production of the "Finding Nemo" potato after it became a hit with shoppers. The characteristically orange and white-skinned potato, with its distinctive banding, echoes the look of the popular clownfish from Pixar’s film, and has clearly captured the public's imagination.

“The response has been fantastic. Families really seem to love the novelty of it, and it tastes great too,” said Rix. The grower believes that the potato’s vibrant colours and unusual markings have helped to boost interest among families, making dinner time a little more fun for children.

Tesco initially stocked the variety on a trial basis, but with the potatoes flying off shelves, they have given Rix the green light to scale up. The supermarket giant confirmed it will now roll out the Finding Nemo potato to more of its stores nationwide.

“We are always looking to introduce products that are not only high quality but also capture the imagination of our customers. The 'Finding Nemo' potato is a brilliant addition, and it’s gone down a treat,” commented a Tesco spokesperson.

The success of the trial marks a shift in the market, as more consumers look for fresh produce that’s both tasty and brings something new to the table. According to Tesco, unusual varieties like this are part of a wider effort to get children interested in eating more vegetables and help families add a bit of fun to their meal planning.

Rix is now preparing to scale up production significantly in order to meet the increased demand, a move that he hopes will keep more households entertained while also boosting overall potato sales. "We never imagined a potato could get this much attention. It’s a fantastic opportunity," he said.

Families across the UK will soon have their chace to put a "Finding Nemo" twist on classic potato dishes, and, if Rix's optimism is anything to go by, this little spud could be making a big splash in the nation's kitchens.
