Tesco Accelerates Rapid Delivery Push With Uber Eats And Deliveroo Deals

Tesco is dramatically widening the reach of its rapid grocery operation through new partnerships with Uber Eats and Deliveroo, opening its range to millions of additional on-demand delivery customers.

The supermarket will launch on Uber Eats in August before joining Deliveroo later in the summer, marking a significant expansion beyond its established Tesco Whoosh service.
Crucially, customers ordering through either platform will be able to access Clubcard Prices and collect Clubcard points. The integration means shoppers will not have to sacrifice Tesco’s loyalty benefits when choosing the convenience of a third-party delivery app.
The move comes as demand for rapid grocery delivery continues to grow and retailers compete to capture the increasingly valuable top-up and immediate-needs market.
Whoosh, which Tesco launched in 2021, offers grocery deliveries in as little as 30 minutes. The service has since expanded to more than 1,500 stores, including 42 larger outlets, increasing both its geographical reach and the breadth of products available.
Tesco said the number of active Whoosh customers has risen by 48 per cent, demonstrating growing consumer appetite for receiving groceries at speed.
Ashwin Prasad, Tesco UK chief executive, said Whoosh had transformed the way millions of customers shop with the retailer by combining speed and convenience with Clubcard value.
He said launching through Uber Eats and Deliveroo would “bring those benefits to even more customers”.
Prasad added that Tesco’s online business was continuing to strengthen, with the two partnerships representing another important step in expanding its reach.
By combining its product range, quality and value proposition with the scale of two of the UK’s best-known delivery platforms, Tesco aims to give shoppers greater freedom to choose how and where they buy their groceries.
The partnerships also represent a strategic shift in Tesco’s approach to rapid delivery. Until now, customers have accessed Whoosh through Tesco’s own website and app, although third-party courier companies have supported the delivery operation.
Making Tesco directly available within the Uber Eats and Deliveroo marketplaces will place the retailer in front of shoppers already using those platforms for restaurant meals, groceries and other convenience purchases.
For the wider grocery sector, the expansion underlines how rapid delivery is evolving from an occasional emergency service into an increasingly important retail channel. Fresh produce, meal ingredients and everyday essentials can now form part of an on-demand shop completed from a mobile phone and delivered within minutes.
Tesco’s decision to extend Clubcard Prices and points to these orders could prove particularly significant, combining the immediacy of quick commerce with the value and loyalty benefits customers expect from a mainstream supermarket.
