A US digital procurement network for the foodservice industry has acquired UK-based United Fresh Consortium (UFC) to create a bridge between its North American and UK grower and distributor networks as Buyers Edge Platform expands across Europe.

The acquisition of UFC – a foodservice supply chain company that connects fresh produce growers and suppliers with catering and hospitality customers in the UK and Ireland – also marks the launch of Buyers Edge Platform’s Fresh Division in Europe.
United Fresh Consortium (UFC) represents the first European fresh produce deal for US group, and the move is positioned as the first step in building a wider European network of growers and local fresh distribution partners.
In acquiring UFC, Buyers Edge Platform said in a press release that it aims to replicate its US fresh produce model, and deliver added value to foodservice operators across the region.
UFC and its digital platform represents a strong strategic addition to the US organisation as it expands globally.
“Our US Fresh Division has evolved into a clear leader in produce management, delivering compelling value to our customers across the nation,” explained John Davie, CEO of Buyers Edge Platform. “With a proven model and strong results, we are well positioned to replicate that success in the European market.”
UFC Eyes Stronger Future Ahead
Founded in 2007 by Christian Paynton, Warwickshire-based UFC was established with the vision of offering the foodservice industry a locally-sourced alternative to national supply.
The company connects independent, regional growers, and producers of fresh produce, meat, dairy, and seafood with hospitality clients, focusing on sustainability.
UFC brings to Buyers Edge Platform a strong sustainability focus, notably transparent carbon-impact reporting that helps catering and hospitality clients improve their environmental performance.
Paynton frames the deal as enabling further investment, innovation, and expansion while maintaining UFC’s existing values and relationships.
“This partnership strengthens our ability to invest, innovate, and grow in the UK and across Europe, while staying true to the values that got us here,” Paynton explained.
“I'm excited about what comes next and deeply grateful to our customers, supply partners, and team for the trust they've placed in us over the years. The future for United Fresh has never been stronger.”
Advancing Across Europe
Acquiring UFC slots into Buyers Edge Platform’s broader European expansion.
Since January 2023 the company has completed 12 European investments across the UK, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, and the Netherlands.
The group now supports over 300,000 operator locations worldwide, managing more than US$74 billion (£54bn) in spend through its digital procurement and supply chain technology.
As Buyers Edge’s Fresh Division develops, a further integration of European growers and local distribution partners is anticipated.
