British universities must urgently adapt to meet the evolving needs of the UK economy, leading experts have warned – a call to action that resonates strongly with the fresh produce and floral sectors.

With industries across the board demanding new skills and greater flexibility, the Fresh Produce Consortium (FPC) is stepping up to showcase the exciting career opportunities available across these vital sectors.

On 20 November, FPC will host FPC Careers, a virtual careers fair, offering students, graduates, and career changers a unique chance to explore a broad range of roles in fresh produce and flowers – industries that are critical not only to the economy but to the nation's food security and sustainability efforts.

Recent reports have highlighted concerns that too many graduates are being funnelled into fields that no longer match the UK's economic demands. As automation, technology, and sustainability initiatives reshape the employment landscape, sectors like fresh produce and floriculture are crying out for skilled, passionate individuals ready to make an impact.

FPC Careers will bring together leading employers, industry experts, and educational bodies to spotlight the wealth of career pathways available – from agritech innovation and logistics to marketing, retail, and sustainability leadership. The event is designed to inspire the next generation of talent while addressing the skills gap that risks undermining future growth.

As the fresh produce and floral sectors continue to innovate and expand, FPC is proud to lead the charge in attracting the bright minds needed to drive these industries forward. Students and job seekers are encouraged to mark their calendars for 20 November and discover where a career in fresh produce or flowers could take them.

We have already put this important event in to our student's and academic's calendars and look forward to joining this careers and networking day. Thank you to Linda and Nicola for pulling it all together too.
