The reductions will save shoppers 20% or more off the full price of staples such as apples, pears, tomatoes, orange juice, bread, and porridge oats, as families return to their routines this September.

Other fresh produce items included in the price cuts include avocados, cucumbers, grapefruit, potatoes, and tinned sweetcorn.

Prices have been lowered by an average of 11% on more than 370 everyday own-brand products across fresh food, store cupboard staples, and household products, with savings of up to 37%.

More than half (56%) of the reduced products come from the value-focused Essential Waitrose range.

Waitrose said in a press release that the latest drive takes its total investment in the 'New Lower Prices’ programme to more than £180m.

The retailer has reduced prices across more than 1,000 products since the programme began

in 2023.

“That’s why we’re investing £20m to lower the price of more than 370 everyday products, from breakfast and lunchbox staples to the ingredients people rely on for family meals.

“We’re making everyday food more affordable while maintaining the standards our customers expect from us.”

The latest price cuts also reflect changing customer priorities around eating well.

Waitrose.com search data shows that searches for ‘high protein’ foods have increased by 112% year-on-year, while searches for ‘high fibre’ foods have increased by 51%.

In response, 70% of the new reduced food lines meet official ‘healthier choice’ standards, including more than 100 fibre-rich products and more than 60 high-protein options.
