British growers have unveiled British Carrot Day, a new annual event designed to champion the UK’s carrot industry and encourage more people to enjoy the vegetable in their everyday meals.

The initiative, spearheaded by leading producers including Will Hunter of Lancashire-based Huntapac Produce, seeks to highlight the importance of carrots both to British diets and to the farming sector. Carrots remain one of the UK’s most widely consumed vegetables, yet growers describe them as a “high-risk, low-return” crop. Even a small rise in household consumption could provide significant support for farmers managing the challenges of production.
The first celebration will take place on Friday 3 October 2025, with organisers encouraging the public to buy, cook and share recipes using British carrots. Supporters are also invited to take part in online campaigns promoting the vegetable, with hashtags such as #BritishCarrotDay and #theloveofcarrots aiming to spread the word.
The launch follows the British Carrot Growers Association’s Demonstration Day, scheduled for Thursday 2 October 2025 near Norwich. The event will showcase more than 80 carrot varieties alongside parsnip trials, offering growers and industry members the chance to exchange insights and explore the latest developments in carrot cultivation.
By introducing a dedicated day of celebration, growers hope to raise awareness of the crop’s nutritional value, versatility in cooking, and the role it plays in sustaining British farming.
With both industry professionals and the wider public invited to take part, British Carrot Day is set to become an annual fixture on the calendar—an opportunity to support growers and celebrate a vegetable that remains central to the nation’s plate.
